Conduct microbiological testing specific to water in dialysis settings. Perform bacteriologic assays of water and dialysis fluids at least once a month and during outbreaks using standard quantitative methods. Assay for heterotrophic, mesophilic bacteria (for example Pseudomonas spp.).
